Resource guarding support for dogs in London
Positive reinforcement, one-to-one support. Guarding is usually about fear of losing something valuable, not dominance or stubbornness. Taking things away or telling a dog off can make that worry stronger.
What resource guarding can look like
We start by keeping everyone safe and understanding what your dog guards, who they guard it from and the early signals they give. Training then focuses on building trust and making people approaching predict good things.
- Freezing or stiffening over an item
- Eating faster when someone approaches
- Growling around food, toys or beds
- Guarding a person or resting place
Good to know: Resource guarding can be linked to pain or health changes. A veterinary check and, in serious cases, a clinical behaviourist may be needed.
